Signatures of Baley Family Members Taken from Rensselaerwyck Documents.
Signatures of Baley Family Members Taken from Rensselaerwyck Documents.
Note that the signature on the 1793 deed differs from that of Thomas Baly (Thomas 4th) on his 1773 lease both in the spelling of Baley and the form of the B, but it is similar to that of Thomas Baley, Jr. (Thomas 5th) on his 1773 lease. The fact that Thomas did not use Junior on 1793 deed, suggests that Thomas 4th was dead at that time. (The deed is shown on the page of Thomas 5th. ) Also, note that Thomas Jr., Stanton, and Elisha all spelled their name Baley.

Simmons Family Bible
Simmons Family Bible
Transcription by Ruth Simmons Stebbins. The Bible was purchased by Jonathan Simmons Sr. and repaired by Eliza Daniels Simmons, wife of Erastus. It was published in 1829 and probably purchased after 1832, when Jonathan Sr. moved to Ohio. Thus, at least some of the records were not made contemporaneously with the events. The oldest persons recorded, Constant and Silence Simmons, lived in Bristol, New York at the same time as their grandchildren.

Tanner, Nathan: A page from his Landlord's Rent Ledger
Tanner, Nathan: A page from his Landlord's Rent Ledger
A page of the Rensselaerwyck Rent Ledger dealing with Nathan Tanner's farm in Petersburgh, Rensselaer, New York. This appears to be a continuation page, as it deals with payments from Dec 1798 through 1808, and it refers to a lease dated 1 Apr 1793. This lease appears to be lost, but the rent (8 bushels of wheat) is the same as that in Nathan's lease dated 1788. Nathan leased Rensselaerwyck land starting in 1779. (Source: New York State Library, East Manor Rent Ledger, Rensselaerwyck Manor Records, MA/FM,974.74,V36,1799-1820., Ledger A, p. 406, microfilm reel 1.)
