Notes - From Early Families of Schoharie County, New York: "Christian presumably immigrated from Germany before August, 1757 and settled at New Durloch (now Seward) N.Y. in 1761 (Kling book p.13). Simms (FNY v2/574) notes that Ottman brothers John, Nicholas, Peter, and William were captured by Tories on 1 September 1781 at Cobelskill (and were held prisoners at Niagara for more than a year, [Kling book p. 13]). Christian Otman appears on the 1790 Canajoharie, NY census (3-4-2) next to William Otman. "
Judging from his will Christian was a successful and wealthy farmer.
In his will, Christian bequeathed two milk cows and six sheep to his wife, along with the right to live in his Mansion house with his son Johannes.
To his son Johannes he bequeathed the house and 100 acres of land and directed Johannes to pay his mother 6 pounds annually, should she ask for it. He also bequeathed Johannes his horses and farming untensils and ordered him to pay 60 pounds to Christian's daughter Catherine Hiller.
To his son Christian he gave 50 acres of land and directed that Christian should live in the house with Johannes. Provisions were added to deal with the possibility that this arrangement did not work out.
To his son William he gave all his share in the farm where William was dwelling.
To his son Peter ha gave a deed to the farm where Peter was living.
To his son Nicholas [i.e.Johan Nicholas] he gave a deed to the farm on Nicholas was living. He also directed that William pay 10 pounds to Christian's son Henricus and also to Christian's daughter Mary Radley.
To his son Jacob he gave a deed to the farm on which Jacob was living. He also ordered that Jacob pay 10 pounds to Christian's son Henricus and also to Mary Radley.
To his son George he gave the farm recently purchased from Christian Poor. He also ordered that George pay 20 pounds to Christian's granddaughter Elizabeth Hiller.
To his son Cornelius he gave the farm on which Cornelius was living. He also ordered Cornelius to pay 20 pounds to his granddaughter Elizabeth Hiller. [3]
