6 Feb 1748/9 Roger Ammidown of Oxford, Worcester County bought for for 300 pounds in old tenor bills 100 acres of land from John Jones of Middlesex County. This property was lying in land belonging to the Province of Massachusets Bay adjacent to the Town of Oxford. It bordered southerly on Roxbury School Farm in Oxford, westerly on Joshiah Kingsbury, and northerly and easterly on Province land. A plan of the land was attached.
    Witnesses: Anthy Jones, Elizabeth Jones
    Rec'd [?] Aug 1753

6 Oct 1765 Roger Amidown of the Douglas District, Worcester County sold for 150 pounds 100 acres of land (described above and originally in deed book 33, p. 510) to Abjiah Kingsbury [who was] "living near Oxford and adjacent to the south side of Oxford".
Witnesses: Ephrain Ballard and Edward Davis
    Rec'd 9 Oct 1765
This deed shows that Roger was living in Douglas by 1765.

The land in the above two deeds was described as the Leonard Grant in the History of Oxford Massachusetts. On 1 Jan 1739 100 acres of land belonging to the Province of Massachusetts Bay was granted to Elkanah Leonard of Middleboro for prosecuting persons from Rhode Island who had committed acts of violence during a controversy between the two governments. On 5 Jan 1739 Leonard sold it to John Jones, who in 1748 sold it to Roger Amidown, who sold it to Abijah Kingsbury in 1765.

On 6 Oct 1765 Roger Amidon of the Douglas District sold his property near Oxford to Abijah Kinsbury. He lived in Douglas until his death.
Death Bef 9 Apr 1794  Douglas, Worcester, Massachusetts Find all individuals with events at this location
    • No record of Roger Senior's death has been found. He died before 9 Apr 1794, the date that Roger Jr. and his siblings sold the land "which belonged to our honored father Roger Amidown deceased". He may have died as early as 1778, because after that year Roger Jr. stopped using the suffix junior when he sold land. At that time men stopped signing junior when they were no longer the younger man with the same name in a locality. Roger junior's land sales could be identified when his wife Elizabeth co-signed them. [7]

    • There is confusion about Philip's second marriage, some sources saying he married Ithamar Warfield 30 Aug 1700 and others saying he married Joanna Warfield (intention) on the same date and that he married Ithamar as his 3rd wife some years later. This confusion may have arisen because both records appear in the same transcription of the Rehoboth vital records. In the groom's record (p. 10) Philip married Joanna and in the bride's record (p. 508) Ithamer married Philip. Neither Best nor Torrey mentions Joanna, but the History of Oxford says she died in 1711 in Mendon and attributes several of Philip's children to her. This is not correct, however, as Mendon vital records say these same children were born to Philip and Ithamar. I have found no other record for Joanna, but I have found Ithamar's birth record. I am not satisfied that Joanna existed and have not included her as one of Philip's wives. [8, 9, 10, 11, 12]
