Earl (son of Martin, Samuel and Greene, Silence) was born on 15 Jun 1780; died on 1 Aug 1837 in Brantford, Canada West, Canada; was buried in Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Oxford, Ontario, Canada. Married:
Earl and Zerviah may have become acquainted between 1795 and 1800 when Zerviah's family was living in Middleburgh, Schoharie County, New York and Earl's family was living in nearby Rensselaerville, Albany County. Zerviah's brother Elijah was reportedly born in Claverack in 1801, and Walworth wrote that Daniel and his family moved to Bainbridge in 1806. Note that the Afton Enterprise article (see notes under Daniel Hyde) says that Daniel moved to Bainbridge in 1801. But this seems unlikely given Zerviah's marriage in Claverack at the end of 1804.

• Residence: 8 Jan 1795, Lebanon, New London, Connecticut; Daniel Hyde of Lebanon advertised for the return of a 19 year old apprentice boy named Walter Hyde. (See document below.) The runaway Walter was almost certainly the son of Charles Hyde, (Daniel's uncle) as he was the right age, having been born 25 Jan 1776 at Lebanon.
• Residence: Abt 1796, Middleburgh, Schoharie, New York; Walworth stated that Daniel relocated from Lebanon to Middleburgh about 1795 and then to Claverack. I have found no documentation for his presence in Middleburgh. It is notable that two of his daughters married men from the Middleburgh area; i.e. Zerviah married Earl Martin and Mary married Leighton Joice. Mary and Leighton lived in Middleburgh for many years. Leighton and Earl also were first cousins through their mothers' side.

• Residence: 1810, Bainbridge, Chenango, New York; US Census: Household: 2 males <10 y.o.; 1 male 10 through 15, 1 male 45 and older, 1 female 10 through 15, 1 female 45 and older.
• Residence: 1820, Bainbridge, Chenango, New York; Census data: 1 male 16 through 25, 1 male 45 and older, 1 female 16 through 45, 1 female and older.

Notes:

Walworth in the Hyde Genealogy says that Daniel settled in Lebanon, Connecticut,moved to Middleburgh (Schoharie County), New York in 1795, then to Claverack, then in 1806 moved to Bainbridge. Daniel's age on his tombstone agrees with the birth date of Daniel Hyde, b. Lebanon, Connecticut. Walworth's description of Zerviah's marriage to Earl Martin, their move to Canada West, her son Walter Hyde Martin, and the names of Walter's children also fit the known facts.






Birth:
I found no birth record in Lebanon town records or church records. First Congregational Church records contained a baptismal record for Daniel and his twin Benjamin, but it did not name the parents. The only written documentation of Daniel's parentage that I have found was in a sworn deposition submitted as part of Sarah Dana Hyde's application for a pension as the widow of the Revolutionary War soldier, Moses Hyde. In that deposition Eliphalet Huntington stated that he knew Daniel Hyde very well, that there was no other Daniel Hyde in Lebanon, and that he understood that Daniel was the son of Walter Hyde who also was the only man of that name in Lebanon and who died in the Revolutionary War.

Daniel married Hyde (Hide), Molly (Mary) on 6 May 1780 in Lebanon, Connecticut. Molly (daughter of Hyde (Hide), Maj Elijah and Clark, Mary) was born on 20 Jun 1760 in Lebanon, New London, Connecticut, USA; died on 27 Dec 1836; was buried in North Afton Cemetery, Afton, Chenango, New York. Walter is honored by two stones in the Old Cemetery, but he is not buried there. His service in the Revolutionary War is recognized by a modern stone and by a cenotaph which reads "This monument is erected in Memory of Capt. Walter Hyde who was of approved integrity, a useful member of Society, a kind husband, an affectionate parent, a lover of his country & a firm Supporter of the rights of Mankind. Exempt from Military duty by former command, he nobly stept forth, raised and took the command of an Independent Company & with them proceeded to the neighbourhood of N. York A.D. 1776 in defence of the invaded rights of the United American States when he died at Greenwich on the 18th day of Sept. 1776 aged 41 years & was there buried & his grave undistinguishable from those of many other strangers. His death was greatly lamented by all to whom he was known."

Died:
There is confusion about the place he died; some sources say Greenwich, New York, some say simply Greenwich, but others say Horseneck. Since Horseneck is a name (now outdated) for a place in Greenwich, Connecticut, I have listed Greenwich, Connecticut as the place he died.

Walter married Bissell, Sarah on 13 Oct 1754 in Lebanon, New London, Connecticut. Sarah (daughter of Bissell, Benjamin and Wattles, Sarah) was born on 13 Oct 1734 in Lebanon, New London, Connecticut; was christened on 20 Oct 1734 in First Congregational Church of Lebanon, Connecticut; died on 4 Oct 1758 in Lebanon, New London, Connecticut; was buried in Old Cemetery, Lebanon, New London County, Connecticut. • Military Service: 1776 - 1778, Connecticut; Commanded the Second Light Horse Regiment of Connecticut Militia. His regiment was present at the battle of Saratoga.
• Will: 1801, Lebanon, New London, Connecticut; So far I have found only probate papers and no will. The heirs were not specifically named. The estate was administered by Elijah Hyde and Zabdiel Hyde, the first and second sons of Maj. Elijah. The file contained a bond, many receipts for payments of debts owed by Maj. Elijah, an inventory of the estate, and an agreement which said "the Heirs who are [?] of age, having agreed to sell so much of sd Home lot as shall be necessary to make sd remaining sum [That is the amount needed to pay the estate's debts] at the inventory price to Capt. Zabdiel Hyde".
